Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

1. What makes Big Sky Ranch Bed & Biscuit different from a traditional kennel?

We provide a home-like environment with plenty of open space for dogs to explore, play, and relax together. We focus on a stress-free, social, and fun atmosphere where dogs can enjoy companionship and freedom in a supervised setting.

2. Where do the dogs sleep at night?

Each dog or family of dogs is assigned to a spacious pen with soft beds. Located in the roomy living area, the pen doors are left open during the day, so the dogs are free to choose whatever spot they want (including the couch). At night the pen doors are shut for their sense of safety. The caretaker is a room away if there is a need in the middle of the night.

3. Where are you located?

We are located in Jefferson, Colorado, on 35 beautiful acres of land, providing a safe and spacious retreat for your dog. We are just southwest of Kenosha Pass off Highway 285 in Park County.

4. Are you on the way to Denver International Airport (DIA)?

Yes. We are conveniently located off Highway 285, the “back way” from Summit County to the Front Range. Our Summit County clients find it convenient to take Highway 285 to the Front Range and the airport, dropping their dog with us on the way. Likewise, our many clients from Chaffee County find us conveniently located on the way to their vacation destination.

5. Do you offer a Meet & Greet before booking?

Yes! We encourage all new clients to schedule a Meet & Greet so you and your dog can visit the ranch, meet us, and we have a chance to interact with your dog before their stay. It also gives you a chance to
see if we are a good fit. The Meet & Greet takes place outdoors, in the enclosed play area.

6. Will we go in the house during the Meet & Greet?

No. We will remain in the play area. The dogs in-house would bark raucously if we were to take you and your dog indoors.  But rest assured, the indoor area is comfortable and has plenty of soft beds and sunny spots for dogs to choose from during their stay.

Booking & Requirements

7. What are your boarding requirements?

To ensure the safety and comfort of all guests, we require:
✅ Up-to-date vaccinations - Rabies, Distemper, and **Bordetella
✅ Dogs to be spayed/neutered if an adult
✅ Dogs to be friendly and social with other dogs

**
Even with the Bordetella vaccine, which helps protect against Kennel Cough, there is no guarantee that a dog will not contract the illness.

8. How do I make a reservation?

You can book a stay by emailing us at BSRBandB@gmail.com or by calling 970-333-0277. We recommend booking in advance, especially during holidays and peak seasons!

9. What should I bring for my dog's stay?

We want your pup to feel at home, so we recommend bringing:
🐾 Their regular food (to avoid tummy troubles). We recommend packing a little extra in case of return travel delays due to weather, etc.
🐾 Any medications they need (with clear instructions)
🐾 If your dog is sensitive to the cold, please bring their jacket if they wear one on chillier days.

11. Do you offer special care for senior dogs or dogs with special needs?

Yes! We tailor our care to meet each dog’s individual needs, whether it’s extra cuddle time, slower-paced activities, or medication administration. We have an ADA ramp for easy access to the front outdoor area.

Safety & Health

12. How do you handle emergencies?

Your dog's safety is our top priority! We will contact you immediately in case of any concerns. We have a local veterinary hospital in Fairplay, or we may bring a dog to it’s own veterinarian.

 13. Do you separate dogs by size or temperament?

In the outdoor play area, yes. Dogs are grouped based on the best dynamics for positive interactions. Playtime is always supervised to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all our canine guests.

When relaxing indoors, no, they are not separated, all shapes, sizes and temperaments hang out together.

14. Will I be updated about my dog’s stay?

Absolutely! We send photos via text or email, allowing you to see your dog enjoying playtime with their new friends and having a great time!

Pick-Up & Drop-Off

15. What are your drop-off and pick-up times?

Our standard drop-off and pick-up hours are 9 am to 6 pm (we prefer 5 pm in the winter when it gets dark early).
We try to be flexible when needed.

To help us manage dogs both indoors and outdoors, we will kindly ask that you text us when you are in Jefferson, so we can anticipate your arrival. Additionally, we will check in with you the day before your dog's check-in to confirm your estimated arrival time for scheduling purposes.

16. Do you offer transportation services?

Yes! We do offer transportation. The transportation rate is $30 each way for a dog or family of dogs. This service is based on availability and may not be available for your dog’s stay. This must be scheduled at the time of booking. For our Front Range clients, we can meet halfway in Conifer.
